Cognition and Far-sightedness | Gemini Factor
Whether in psychology, psychiatry, philosophy, spirituality, or religion, the mind, with all its different aspects or creative forces, as mostly characterized and interpreted in spirituality, still remains a mystery to be uncovered. In 2026, many universities around the world continue to conduct research on many different phenomena of the mind, even telepathy and other mental faculties that are still considered taboo. To say that we have a mind is truly a privilege these days, as chaos prevails all around the world and in everyday life, even when it is completely unnecessary. No wonder peace of mind remains one of the greatest luxuries to this day.
Joseph Campbell, one of my favorite scholars, said: “All the gods, all the heavens, all the hells, are within you.” As someone who’s spent years and countless hours in meditation and the art of introspection, I couldn’t agree more. It takes a whole lot of discipline to understand the mind, and not because it needs a forceful tactic to reconcile some of the chaos, but more than anything, it needs patience, self-leniency, emotional tolerance, and psychological flexibility. Without such inner capacity, which we all have the choice to develop in the course of living, the mind cannot become whole, coherent, organized, or harmonious.
In Astrology, the reason why there are so many different problems in life and in the world is mainly because of how people go in circles with themselves, others, or at times, even everybody. When we study astrology, and how it explains certain human faculties, like choosing one thing over another, or choosing a topic to explore at a specific time, or even choosing how we feed our bodies and nurture our emotional needs, it becomes more about reaching beyond. To reach beyond means to have the capacity to be far-sighted through long-range thinking, which in turn deepens our cognition, or the mind’s process of making sense of things. And with these, of course, comes cognitive flexibility, our mind’s ability to shift perspectives, adapt to new information, hold multiple ideas at once, and think beyond fixed patterns, which is essential in becoming more rational, holding space for others, and becoming more grounded and evolved human beings on this little blue planet we call Earth.
Many years ago, when I was in college, to be precise, I had a very peculiar dream. I’m sure it’s logged in one of my journals somewhere, so I don’t have access to all the details now, but I remember sharing this dream with a friend at the time who was much older and wiser. In the dream, I had given birth to a baby with a crystal head. I know it sounds horrific, but there’s always more context, so hear me out. I was on a train, and whatever this journey represented made sense in relation to what was happening in my life at the time, spiritually and materially speaking. But I remember specifically sharing the detail of this little baby with a crystal and see-through skull, a mind so transparent I could see right through it. I was then told about the symbolism of the coherent mind, the purified mind that the soul longs to develop in the course of living. And bingo, it all clicked, and I was able to understand it more as time went on.
In Astrology and in most new age thought today, which was already understood centuries ago through alchemy and philosophy, beyond the brain, there is the faculty of the higher mind, which some people today interpret as more right-brain thinking. This is not how it is interpreted by astrology, though, because right-brain thinking is understood more as that part of the brain used like an antenna or receiver. When it comes to thought patterns, mind, and brain development, many people often get stuck in a loop as a result of unconscious defense mechanisms or projections of the ego, and fail to reach beyond through long-range thinking and cognitive flexibility in order to see clearly. This is why, for example, we often find couples that fight like cats and dogs.

The Realm of Open-mindedness
To reach beyond our head, beyond our brain, into the ether, or the higher self, into the intuitive mind, means to be connected and to pull from a source beyond the limitations of this lifetime, or outside of the space-time continuum, where our experience and model of life become a model for all, and into a different realm of open-mindedness and empathy, free from dogma, bias, favouritism, or stubborn thinking. It means being able to connect to a part of ourselves that can give us a hint, an idea, or a tip that will allow us to get through a certain life situation with less difficulty, with more flow, and with optimum happiness. This is to be able to overcome our Gemini factor in Astrology, which more often represents the challenge of our left-brain function. Whether we have Gemini placements in our chart or not, it does not matter, because we are all influenced by every sign through transits and cycles in one way or another.
Now, the Gemini factor is absolutely essential because without it, we would have no use of our left brain at all, and we wouldn’t be able to function. We wouldn’t be able to think, eat, drink, or dress, etc., so it is essential for us, especially in communion or correlation with the right-brain or antenna-like function, which reaches more into the higher realms of thought, into our soul’s pattern or reincarnation banks (which is another topic in and of itself).
We are all conditioned into a particular way of thinking in life, especially considering how we were raised, and oftentimes, the people who struggle most with the Gemini factor are people who were raised through particularly difficult religious indoctrination or within a cult. When you hear the stories of these individuals, you can truly feel the depth of the pain and how deeply this indoctrination destroys one’s ability to harmonize the Gemini factor within their life and how it pours into every little aspect of it. Even after years of therapy, most of these individuals still struggle to fully heal and live a life free from the pain, shame, and all the garbage that comes from going through that kind of struggle and having the courage to actually break free, especially from fanaticism. This world can become really weird, and when you really think about it all, do try to treasure your greatest asset, your mind. You may lose all the material things in this world, but if you can preserve an open mind, that is the greatest treasure of all.
If you have a lot of planets in the third house, or in Gemini, or if you have an afflicted Mercury in your chart, then you may tend to be a more left-brained, conscious, logical type of person. On the other hand, if you have a lot of planets in water signs like Pisces, Cancer, or Scorpio, or in the twelfth house, decently aspected, or with Neptune trines, etc., then you may be gifted with the ability to be more right-brained or intuitive. Many people have karma connected to this philosophy of the Gemini factor, so it can be useful to dive into our astrological charts at times and perhaps study them a little better.
