The Moon & Its Mysteries

moon & its mysteries

The Moon is very important because it is the closest celestial body to the planet Earth and serves as a trigger for different events that happen in our lives. The Moon rules everything of water in nature, such as the tides and the oceans, but it also makes our planet more livable as it affects its climate. Our moon is the fifth largest of the 200+ moons that orbit planets in our solar system. Of course, the moon also rules the human body because we are made of at least 60% percent of water. As we understand more about the moon, we will find that we all go through an emotional cycle every month. The Moon orbits around the Earth and, together with the Earth, moves around the Sun. It has a 29-day cycle around the Earth, and over this period, its light changes because when the Moon is on the same side of the Earth as the Sun, we cannot see it due to the Sun’s brilliance. But when the Moon is on the far side of the Earth from the Sun, then it’s reflecting all of the Sun’s light, and that’s when we see a full moon. The full moon is the Moon on one side of the Earth, and the new moon is when the Moon comes between the Earth and the Sun. Throughout Earth’s history, we have had good reasons to observe how we behave during the time of a new moon versus a full moon.

The Moon reflects the light of the Sun, and from an astrological stance, the Sun is consciousness. It’s our awareness or the I am presence that fuels the center of our being. The Moon, on the other hand, is said to rule our emotions or our feelings and how we respond to the light of the Sun. So at the full moon, we tend to feel more of the Sun’s energy emotionally. For many centuries, it has been documented that on a full moon, atrocious wars were more likely. Emergency rooms are filled with all sorts of accidents, and even police officers don’t like it when a full moon falls on weekends because of increased violent crime and because the full moon is said to drive us to lunacy. We have myths portraying the same behaviors during a full moon, such as the myth of the werewolves. In short, during a full moon, we tend to become more sensitive and overall feel things more fully.

When we look at science, there’s a thing called surface tension. Surface tension allows objects with a higher density than water, such as razor blades and insects like water striders, to float on a water surface without becoming even partly submerged because the water beads up. Surface tension changes from the new moon to the full moon. Even doctors know that at a full moon, we bleed more and easier than at a new moon. The surface tension is basically greater at a new moon versus a full moon because the energy seems to flow more at a full moon. Women tend to menstruate or regulate their menstrual cycles with a full moon too. The term “mens” from which the word menstruation derives, means “of the moon.” If we pay attention to the days leading up to a full moon, we will realize that our dreams may be richer or won’t necessarily end as we wake up. We will tend to be more emotional. At a time of a new moon, our minds are more clear, and we are less emotional, which is why it is considered a good time to plant seeds.

what is the moon

Esoteric interpretations

The Moon represents personality, subconscious, or subjective mind, our intuitive behavior associated with intuition, instincts, habits, memory, imagination, receptivity, the feminine side to our personality, desire for fresh experiences, maternity, fecundity, disposition, feelings, moods, sensitivity, sensation, and sympathy. When we connect to the moon’s rhythms, we handle flux with more ease and grace. The more we feel and honor those rhythms, the more easily we resonate with the flow of her impact upon the earth and within the waters of our very being. In ancient Rome, Diana was honored as the goddess of the Moon as well as of wild forests and animals. The changing Moon reflects the cycles of nature and of life. Because it reflects the light of the Sun, the archetype of the Moon was often associated with childhood imagination, the unconscious, illusions, fears, mysteries, falsity, secrets, hysteria, or the shadow self. It also represents the state of impure horror, hidden darkness that must be passed through before light can be reborn; the Moon is, therefore, the most universal of the planets, partaking at once of the highest and the lowest. As the golden light of the Sun reveals the outer expression of personality, the silvery light of Luna, the Moon, brings its subtle influence to the inner life. The Moon also enhances all psychic abilities and does not depend on logic or reasonable explanations.

Now from an esoteric and scientific perspective, although we see the planetary body of the Moon, it is, in actuality, a celestial sphere or realm found within as well as around the world, and we can find reference to these celestial spheres in many ancient teachings. Personally, I can go as far as associating the Moon with the archetype of the trickster. Although we may not find many references to this, the Moon, luminous and bright, only reflects the light of the Sun, and because light has traveled through so many celestial spheres before reflecting upon the Earth’s surface through the Moon, it is meant to break norms and conventional behavior and bring color and creativity within the waters of our psyche. Like all celestial spheres or realms, including Earth, there are denser or more degenerate beings and life forms as well as evolved beings, aspects, and expressions of different life forms. The archetype of the trickster is the most illusive and cynical when we look at human behavior. And a great artist is one who is well-connected to the celestial sphere of the Moon, the rhythms of their own emotional ups and downs, and often willing to rebel, turn things upside down and inside out when proposing a new perspective to the world.

Many indigo children, which I will discuss thoroughly in another post, have and are incarnating from the celestial sphere of the Moon. In fact, American rapper and singer song-writer XXXTentacion alluded in one of his interviews before passing that he knew with every fiber of his soul that he was from the Moon. These beings incarnating in human form are here with the sole purpose of breaking paradigms, conventional behavior, societal norms, and our understanding of reality and the self. They are here to open our minds and establish different psychobehavioural relations as we embrace the invention of the self with more playfulness, less fear, and more courage. The Moon is also the home of many magical creatures or elemental beings, often represented by the four elements here on Earth. And this is because, without the Moon, we wouldn’t know life on Earth as we know it today. Remember that everything is light, and everything is created from light.

the moon

What would life be like without the Moon?

Without the Moon, there would be very little tidal flow. The rivers and the oceans that bring hot equatorial water to the polar regions and back would disappear. The Moon has slowed our planetary rotation, so if we had no moon, the days would speed up. The moon also locks the planet into a 23 and 1/2-degree tilt, which gives us our seasons. Without the Moon locking the Earth, the planet would begin to rotate at different angles, and this would cause the weather to become very weird, and there couldn’t be life here as we know it.
